~Several Events Planned on November 15~

Fairfax Recycles Day

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. – America Recycles Day celebrations have taken place in communities across the country every November 15 since 1994. The goal is to stress the importance of recycling by using activities and events to encourage recycling efforts, promote the proper ways to recycle and to build consumer demand for recycled products.

This year the Fairfax County Department of Public Works and Environmental Services is sponsoring an America Recycles Day Poster Contest focusing on the three Rs – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

The guidelines are posters should be ledger-size, (11x17 inches). Digital versions should be high resolution so they can be enlarged and reproduced. By entering the contest artists are granting permission to DPWES to reproduce their submissions.

Those submitting entries should follow the instructions on the accompanying entry form. All entries must be received by Monday, November 8, 2021. Visit America Recycles Day Poster Contest for entry form and details.

Also, in recognition of America Recycles Day those who take a pledge to recycle will be eligible for prizes, including gift certificates. The pledge is sponsored by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments. Those who complete the form are automatically entered into the contest for regional prizes.

And, to wrap up America Recycles Day, at 7 p.m. on November 15 there will be a live event on the Fairfax County Environment Facebook page. During Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: Ask the Experts, attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions about recycling in Fairfax County.
