The Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the American Public Works Association (APWA) has announced the winners of its annual Mid-Atlantic Region awards and Fairfax County’s Department of Public Works and Environmental Services (DPWES) is bringing home eight of them, five for Project of the Year and three honorable mentions.
Only four years after receiving accreditation from the American Public Works Association and just a month and half after receiving reaccreditation in December 2020, DPWES again received more project awards than other member municipalities in the APWA Mid-Atlantic Region.
“Having Mid-Atlantic APWA recognize the work of DPWES and our partners with these awards acknowledges the excellence in the building and enhancement of the county’s infrastructure,” said DPWES Assistant Director Juan Reyes.
Criteria established for Project of the Year consideration includes:
- Good construction management
- Safety performance and overall safety program
- Community relations
- Environmental protection
- Unusual accomplishments under adverse conditions
- Exceptional efforts and innovations
- Sustainability
The following projects were selected for 2021 awards.
