Join employees from Fairfax County’s Solid Waste Management Program at a special recycling celebration at the Fairfax County Government Center on Friday, November 15, 2019. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., staff will hold an event marking Fairfax Recycles Day, a local event held in conjunction with Keep America Beautiful© America Recycles Day.

At its October 29 meeting, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors designated November 15 as Fairfax County Recycles Day, in alignment with the national initiative. The event is designed to raise awareness about the county’s recycling program and promote good recycling habits.

The event will take place in front of the Fairfax County Government Center located at 12000 Government Center Parkway in Fairfax. Attendees are invited to nibble on free popcorn, chat with recycling experts, play games, and enter to win prizes. Children are invited to climb behind the wheel of a recycling collection truck. A roll-off truck with a purple, glass-only recycling container will be on display.

“Communities around the country are struggling to adjust to recent changes in global recycling markets. Fairfax Recycles Day is our chance to celebrate the county’s commitment to recycling and to educate residents on how to recycle right” said John Kellas, director of the Solid Waste Management Program. “Working together, we can improve the quality of our program and ensure recycling remains a viable option for responsible waste disposal.”
