Food Scraps Composting Program to Begin and a Glass Monster Event

The Fairfax County Solid Waste Management Program (SWMP) invites the public to two ribbon cutting events to launch a new pilot program that encourages food scraps to be dropped off for composting. The public is also invited to attend an educational event featuring environmental education displays and information including the Glass Monster. The public is invited to attend the following in-person events:

  • Monday, November 16, from 2:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. at the I-66 Transfer Station, 4618 West Ox Road, Fairfax, VA 22030. The SWMP will host a ribbon-cutting event to celebrate the grand opening of a new drop off site for food scrap composting. SWMP staff will hand out a limited number of reusable buckets, with secure lids and a handle, that can be used to transport food scraps to drop off locations.
  • Tuesday, November 17, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Fairfax County Government Center, 12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax, VA 22035. The SWMP will host an educational event, featuring environmental educational displays and information, the ever-popular “touch-a-truck” event, and the latest star of SWMP’s recycling outreach program, the Glass Monster.
  • Wednesday, November 18, from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. at the I-95 Landfill Complex, 9850 Furnace Road, Lorton, VA 22079. The  SWMP will host a second ribbon-cutting event to celebrate the grand opening of a new drop off site for food scrap composting.
