Fairfax County Hosts Educational Water Workshop for Elementary Students
- A group of Fairfax County elementary school kids learned not all field trips involve fields or aromatic flowers. Some provide a learning experience that involves dirty water and putrid smells. Sixth graders from Lorton Station Elementary recently participated in a workshop and tour on water science at the Noman Cole Pollution Control Plant.

Scott’s Run Nature Preserve to Temporarily Close during Repair of Wastewater Pipes
- Fairfax County, Va. – Beginning March 28, Scott’s Run Nature Preserve will be temporarily closed while specialized Department of Public Works and Environmental Services (DPWES) contractors perform an emergency project to clean obstructed County wastewater pipes and make necessary repairs to maintain service.

DPWES Stormwater Management and Wastewater Management Programs Win Big at Annual WEFTEC Awards
- The County’s Wastewater Management Program received what amounts to ‘gold’ in the industry by winning the National Municipal Stormwater and Green Infrastructure Awards in the MS4 Phase I Overall Category. The award for the MS4 program was presented at the Water Environment Federation’s annual WEFTEC Awards 2023 ceremony which recently took place in Chicago. With this win, the MS4 program is now recognized as the best in the country.

Flushed! The Journey of Wastewater

Wastewater Management (WWM) does more than just clean dirty water. Employees from all WWM divisions work toward pollution prevention and continuous improvement focused on maintaining our wastewater infrastructure, a critical asset to Fairfax County, and protecting human health and the environment. This video series highlights some of the programs and systems where dedicated wastewater employees work to enhance the quality of life for those that live, work or visit Fairfax County.

Fairfax County Wastewater Collection Division’s Rehabilitation and Inspection team oversees rehabilitation program to extend the useful life of the sewer pipes. The trenchless rehabilitation method minimizes disruptions and helps ensure reliable sewer service to residents throughout the county.
