Wastewater Management Awards Ceremony
Wastewater Management Program Recognized by the Water Environment Federation, Government Finance Association, and the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality
- There are more than 160,000 water and wastewater treatment plants in the United States. Given that number, it is an honor to receive recognition by the Water Environment Federation (WEF) as a Utility of the Future. Recently the Wastewater Management Program (WWM) received the distinction for its work at the Noman M. Cole Pollution Control Plant and its collection system, placing the facility among only 200 plants nationwide to be given the designation since its inception in 2016.

Water Quality Tests Show No Elevated Levels of Bacteria at Lake Accotink
- More than 24 hours after bacterial testing began on the water in Lake Accotink following a sewage spill, results show bacteria levels are not elevated. This indicates the cleanup effort was done in time to prevent downstream contamination from reaching Lake Accotink. As a result, there is no continued concern regarding human exposure to untreated sewage in the lake.

Wastewater Management (WWM) does more than just clean dirty water. Employees from all WWM divisions work toward pollution prevention and continuous improvement focused on maintaining our wastewater infrastructure, a critical asset to Fairfax County, and protecting human health and the environment. This video series highlights some of the programs and systems where dedicated wastewater employees work to enhance the quality of life for those that live, work or visit Fairfax County.

Fairfax County Wastewater Collection Division’s Rehabilitation and Inspection team oversees rehabilitation program to extend the useful life of the sewer pipes. The trenchless rehabilitation method minimizes disruptions and helps ensure reliable sewer service to residents throughout the county.
