Franconia-Springfield Bus Service Review Survey

The Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) wants your input on improving the Fairfax Connector bus network to accommodate all residents in the Greater Franconia-Springfield area. Based on the initial survey, ongoing resident and stakeholder feedback, and technical analysis, FCDOT has developed alternatives.

We invite you to continue to provide input through this survey. Below you will find three bus transit service alternatives, each with their own set of unique characteristics to improve Franconia-Springfield bus service:

  • Alternative 1 - Existing Service Plus is most similar the current Fairfax Connector service. This alternative builds on recommendations from Fairfax Connector’s most recent Transit Development Plan (TDP). It reduces inefficient service and span of service for some routes slightly but improves frequency of service to places such as Tysons. Most routes serving Metrorail would remain oriented to the Franconia-Springfield Metrorail Station.
  • Alternative 2 - Streamlined Service simplifies current service. This alternative improves frequency, reduces travel time while maintaining access to key Metrorail Stations. There is no impact to span of service. With this alternative, there are new connections to George Mason University and Burke.
  • Alternative 3 – Transformation completely re-imagines service in the Franconia-Springfield area, including all-day service from a series of local routes, "peak" (rush hour only) service to Metrorail Stations via feeder routes, and express route service to Tysons and the Pentagon. This alternative improves frequency, span of service, and provides new  connections to George Mason University, Burke, and Kings Park.

Thank you for your participation as we develop a final preferred plan that will give you better access to the places you go, improve travel times and reliability of Fairfax Connector bus service.
