Metrorail Silver Line

Project Background

The Silver Line, constructed by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA), is a 23-mile Metrorail extension connecting the Tysons, Reston, Herndon, and Dulles Airport areas of Fairfax County to the regional Metrorail system.

Phase 1 - Opened in July 2014

Phase 1 of the Silver Line, which included Tysons and one station in Reston, was opened July 26, 2014. The stations opened as part of Phase 1 are:

Phase 2 - Construction Underway

Construction for Phase 2, which is tentatively scheduled to open in 2022 is substantially complete. Phase 2 will extend the Silver Line through Reston, Herndon, and Dulles Airport to Route 772/Ashburn in Loudoun County. For details on traffic impacts related to Phase 2 construction, please visit the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project Website at www.dullesmetro.com.
