The Fairfax County Animal Shelter supports the sterilization of companion animals in the interest of the health and safety of Fairfax County residents, both humans and animals alike.
Sterilization, or spay/neuter, prevents life-threatening, costly diseases and behaviors commonly known as “nuisance behaviors.” These behaviors include spraying, marking and roaming. Spaying (females) and neutering (males) help decrease the stray animal population, improve animal health and decrease the risk of injury and disease exposure.
