Description: This layer contains the visible pools that belong to a community but not to individual properties. This includes outdoor pools at recreation sites and outdoor pools at hotels and condominium complexes and multi-family residential complexes such as rental communities. The layer contains the name of the pool if it is known. The original data in this layer was captured during the 1997-2000 data conversion effort for Fairfax County. The pools were captured using stereo models. Since then the GIS office has captured pools from orthophotography by performing heads up digitizing. Prior to receiving the orthophotography, site plans are used to capture the planned pools. Copyright Text: The data set was created by Analytical Surveys Incorporated (ASI) and Landata under contract to Fairfax County. Quality control checks were performed by Engineering Systems Incorporated and Dewberry and Davis. Staff from the GIS branch were also used for quality control checking. Since 2001 Fairfax County staff have been solely responsible for maintaining this data.
