Internal Audit


The Internal Audit Office was established by the Board of Supervisors as an independent appraisal function to examine and evaluate county activities as a service to the county executive and all levels of management.  The office conducts performance audits and management advisory projects covering operational, financial, and information technology areas.

Internal Audit reports directly to the county executive.  Our audits are conducted in accordance with Government Auditing Standards.

 Types of audit projects include:

  • Operational Audits
  • Business Process Audits
  • Information Technology Audits
  • Management Advisory Projects
  • Follow-up Reviews

 Other areas of Internal Audit focus and involvement include:

  • Performing contract related review projects upon request
    • Architect & engineer (A&E) reviews
    • Pre-award reviews
    • Financial analysis reviews
  • Coordinating and investigating allegations of fraud or ethics violations
  • Coordinating and obtaining answers for employee ethics questions
  • Participating in an advisory capacity during systems development life cycle (SDLC) projects
  • Providing training and make presentations to increase knowledge and raise awareness about risk, internal controls, fraud and ethics

"Internal auditing is an independent, objective assurance and consulting activity designed to add value and improve an organization's operations.  It helps an organization accomplish its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance processes."2
