Professional Associations

The Association of Government Accountants (AGA) is the educational organization dedicated to the enhancement of public financial management. AGA serves the professional interests of financial managers, from local, state and federal governments, as well as public accounting firms.

The Government Finance Officers Association is the professional association of state/provincial and local finance officers in the United States and Canada. The association was established in 1906.

ISACA Foundation (www.isaca.org)
This site provides information about membership, certification, education, and chapters.

ISACA National Capital Area Chapter (www.isaca-washdc.org)
This site provides information about training events, newsletters, board membership, the CISA exam and employment.

Institute of Internal Auditors (www.theiia.org)
Includes information about the organization, standards, training, certification, and publications.

Association of Local Government Auditors (www.alga.org)
The Association of Local Government Auditors is a forum for issues that concern local government auditors. This site includes a database of audit reports.

Virginia Local Government Auditors Association (www.vlgaa.org)
The Virginia Local Government Auditors Association is the state-wide organization dedicated to promoting the local government audit profession.

This site for internal auditors has links to audit programs, audit surveys, discussion groups, audit guides, audit manuals, etc.

IGNet (www.ignet.gov)
Internet based electronic communications network dedicated to improving the effectiveness of the Inspector General community and to provide public access to IG reports. Site includes liks to IG home pages, internet resources via a virtual library, the IGNet internet search list, and related organizations. The site includes the Interactive Yellow Book, a valuable tool for government and non-government auditors.

Established by the Institute of Internal auditors, this site provides resources and information for IT auditors.

Accounting

General Accountability Office (www.gao.gov)
Includes GAO reports and testimony, as well as the 100 most requested audits.

Government Accounting Standards Board (www.gasb.org)
GASB establishes accounting and financial reporting standards for state and local entities. It includes publications, projects, and news.

Fraud

Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (www.cfenet.com)
The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners is an international, professional organization dedicated to fighting fraud and white-collar crime.
