The Department of Cable Communications and Consumer Protection
regulates non-exclusive cable television franchises with
Comcast of Virginia, Inc., Cox Communications, Inc., and Verizon
Virginia, Inc. through enforcement of the franchise agreements with
the cable providers, inspection of facilities, and attention to
citizen concerns.
Consumer Protection Division staff are available
to assist with customer service issues relating to cable TV services
provided by Fairfax County cable providers. Frequent customer service
issues include billing disputes, missed appointments, service outages
and poor quality of video and/or audio. Staff also work to help
resolve subscriber complaints and provide consumer education and
information on the various telecommunication choices to help County
residents make informed decisions. For questions relating to consumer
protection services, please contact the Consumer Protection Division
at 703-222-8435, TTY 711
Communications Policy and Regulation Division
staff enforce County and federal laws relating to construction.
Some of the issues inspectors address are construction crews working
without proper traffic control devices; equipment left on site or
not cordoned off; cables lying exposed above ground; trenches left
open and unattended and operators working on public right-of-ways.
For questions relating to cable operator inspections please contact
the Communications Policy and Regulation Division at 703-324-5902,
TTY 711.
