Summer means picnics, frolicking outdoors, and fun at the pool. But having fun at the pool includes being safe. On this edition of Focus on Health: Pool Safety, learn how maintaining safe and healthy pool facilities involves a team approach: the Health Department, pool operators, and you – the pool patrons. The Fairfax County Health Department conducts inspections on all public pools, and educates patrons and pool operators about their roles in the prevention of injuries and water-borne illness. Pool owners and operators check the chemical levels of the water to make sure the water is safe. And patrons play an important role in ensuring water quality by showering prior to swimming, making sure babies wear swim diapers under their suits, and refraining from swimming if they have an open wound or rash.
