Access to the Internet is essential, yet many households can’t afford it.
In Fairfax County, the three cables TV operators Comcast, Cox and Verizon offer low-cost Internet plans available to certain qualifying households. Comcast’s program is called Internet Essentials, Cox offers ConnectAssist and Connect2Compete, and Verizon offers Verizon Forward. If you’re eligible, the monthly charges for the programs range from $9.95 - $50 per month. You can contact the providers directly to see if you qualify.
In addition to the low-cost Internet plans offered by the County's cable operators, the federal government, through the Federal Communications Commission’s Lifeline program, offers discounts on qualifying monthly telephone service, broadband Internet service, or bundled voice-broadband packages purchased from participating wireline or wireless providers. You can check here to see if you’re eligible for the $9.25 monthly discount.
