Hours of Operation:

  • Lake Fairfax Park grounds are open every day from dawn to dusk
  • When bad weather strikes, the park may need to alter the normal operating schedule. Call the office to determine the status during inclement weather.

Office Hours:

Daily: 10am to 6pm
Beginning Feb. 2: 8am - 6pm
Beginning Apr. 12: 8am - 7pm

For recreation and fun in western Fairfax, this 476- acre park includes a 20-acre lake with fishing, the Water Mine family Swimmin’ Hole, boat rentals, carousel, athletic fields, picnic shelters and picnic areas with grills, a playground, restrooms, campgrounds, trails and a skatepark.

The Water Mine Family Swimmin’ Hole features tubing on the Rattlesnake Lazy River, a tot pool at Tenderfoot Pond, slides, tunnels, and interactive play features designed for young children. The Water Mine is open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.

Carousel and boat rentals are open from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and only on weekends and holidays during September and October.

The campground , picnic areas  , playground, trails and skatepark are open year-round. Virginia State fishing license is required, and sailboats, gasoline and electric-powered boats and swimming are prohibited in the lake.

Admission is free for shoppers. The $25 fee for vendors includes a 10’ x 10’ stall. Space is limited, so vendors are encouraged to register early. For more information on vending, contact the park at 703-471-5416.

Schedule of Activities

Friday night — Campsite sign-in, Campfire stories and sing-along at 7 p.m.!
Saturday — Morning and afternoon sessions: Hiker and Senses for Brownies, Animal Habitats for Juniors, Intro to Trailblazing for Cadettes, Water for Ambassadors. Teambuilding for scouts ages 12 and up, Fire building for ages 10 and up!
Saturday night —Craft Hour at 6 p.m., Night Owl badge for Cadettes at 8:15 p.m.
Sunday —Wake up to nature’s beauty. Enjoy the morning—check out time is 10 a.m.

To register for badges, activities and campsites go to parktakes online using the links below. Sign up for activities separately, $5—$10 each. Campsite registration is $6 per camper per night. Call Lake Fairfax Park at 703-471-5415 with event questions. Food and drinks are not provided. Ice and firewood are available for purchase. Registration deadline is Friday, April 18. See you there!!

Pirates, privateers, and ports of call

This new festival celebrates Virginia’s seafaring past.  Join with Ships Company Chanteymen singing traditional sea chanteys, tavern tunes and pirate ditties.  Explore up close the quarter scale ship called the “Lion” and learn sailor skills. Experience the life of a sailor first hand with our many fun activity stations, including a pirate-themed tour boat ride. Wear your most dashing pirate clothes and enter our costume contest.  Learn about global trade in the 18th century, and discover the luxury goods from international ports that compelled pirates to sail the seven seas.

Trout Fishing in Spring 2014

trout stockingThe 20-acre lake at Lake Fairfax Park is stocked with trout for the Spring 2014 Trout Fishing Season. Fishermen are invited to come catch their six-fish daily limit.

Lake Fairfax Skate Park

Skate Park

There are now lights at Lake Fairfax Skate Park. The lights are timed to turn on 30 minutes before sunset. Lights will turn off at 8:15 p.m. in the skate park and 8:30 p.m. in the parking lot. In case of inclement weather or other safety issues, the lights will not be activated.
