Under Construction Campgrounds and the Skate Park will remain open until December 30, 2016. From January 1 through March 31, 2017, the campground, skate park and access to the upper half of Lake Fairfax Park, including fields and trailheads, will be closed. The Fairfax County Park Authority is not accepting field use reservations or camping reservations during these dates.

Public access to the park will continue to be from Lake Fairfax Drive to the main park entrance for the duration of these projects. We apologize for any inconvenience.

The "C" Campground bathhouse and "B" bathroom in the Large Shelter are currently closed due to construction. Portable toilets are available and the bathhouse in the family camping area is open for shower and bathroom use as is the bathroom in the main office. The expected construction completion date is March 31, 2017.

During Colvin Run restoration, September 6, 2016 through May 26, 2017, the free day picnic area will be closed as well as picnic areas A, B, C and D and the cross-country course. Free picnic areas have been relocated near the main office and front of the park. Please call the site for specific locations.

Hours of Operation:

  • Lake Fairfax Park grounds are open every day from dawn to dusk.
  • When bad weather strikes, the park may need to alter the normal operating schedule. Call the office to determine the status during inclement weather.



Office Hours:

November 15 - February 20   Daily: 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Feb 21 – November 14   Daily: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

For recreation and fun in western Fairfax, this 476 acre park includes a 20-acre lake with fishing, the Water Mine family Swimmin’ Hole, boat rentals, carousel, athletic fields, picnic shelters and picnic areas with grills, a playground, restrooms, campgrounds, trails and a skatepark.

The Water Mine Family Swimmin’ Hole features tubing on the Rattlesnake Lazy River, a tot pool at Tenderfoot Pond, slides, tunnels, and interactive play features designed for young children. The Water Mine is open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.

Carousel and boat rentals are open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. Visit Marina and Carousel for hours of operation details.

The campground, picnic areas , playground, trails and skatepark are open year-round. Virginia State fishing license is required, and sailboats, gasoline and electric-powered boats and swimming are prohibited in the lake.

Lake Fairfax Skate Park

Skate Park

There are now lights at Lake Fairfax Skate Park. The lights are timed to turn on 30 minutes before sunset. Lights will turn off at 8:15 p.m. in the skate park and 8:30 p.m. in the parking lot. In case of inclement weather or other safety issues, the lights will not be activated.
