Mature Living: Depression in Seniors

Our later years can be a time of rich experiences and new beginnings, but, challenges such as caregiving, illness and the death of loved ones can contribute to depression and perhaps even suicide.  Eileen Yates, a Behavioral Health Supervisor with the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board, shares information on identifying depression and suicide risk, and how to find help.

Lori Naveda, a Behavioral Health Specialist and substance abuse counselor with the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board, and Laura Mayer, Director of the PRS CareRing program, discuss the impact of their programs in helping seniors cope with depression.  In the mid-show segment, Andrew Guthrie, a senior who uses the CareRing program, discusses how this valuable resource has benefitted him.
