Discover the Sweet Desserts Exhibit, Programs at Ellanor C. Lawrence Park

Making IceJoin us through September at Walney Visitor Center, located at 5040 Walney Road, for a fascinating journey into history.

Explore the legacy of the enslaved African Americans who made desserts for the Machen family on Walney Farm. Learn about the authentic tools used to create these desserts. The whole family will have a unique and educational experience.

Don't miss out on this incredible collaboration between Ellanor C. Lawrence Park and the Archaeology and Collections Branch. Explore a year of work—where the past meets the present.

Ellanor C. Lawrence Park is hosting several additional dessert programs in August. Have fun trying your hand at making ice cream or exploring other historic desserts from the 1800s.

Making Ice and Ice Cream at Walney (Aug. 12 from 2 to 3 p.m.): Experience the magic of making ice and ice cream just like the 19th-century farmers did. Get hands-on with ice tongs as you discover the age-old art of ice harvesting and storage. Fun for all ages, children must be accompanied by a registered adult. Cost $9.

Historic Desserts (Aug. 16 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.): Prepare to be whisked away to the 1800s as we delve into the challenges of cooking in that era. Join us by the open hearth and learn the secrets of creating historic desserts that reflect the flavors of the season. Space is limited for this unique culinary experience. Cost $12.
