The Fairfax County Park Authority is pleased to announce the official ribbon-cutting ceremony for North Hill Park on Saturday, Sept. 16, at 9 a.m. Join Mount Vernon District Supervisor Dan Storck, Board of Supervisors Chairman Jeff McKay, the Park Authority Board and members of the community as we celebrate the long-awaited completion of this new community park. North Hill Park is located at 7230 Nightingale Hill Lane, Alexandria.
The Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority initiated a redevelopment planning process for the North Hill site, located near the intersection of Richmond Highway and Dart Drive. The plan's purpose was to transform the site into a mixed-income community with affordable and market rate housing comprising multifamily rental apartments and for-sale townhomes. As part of the overall redevelopment effort, the 12-acre property was transferred to the Park Authority for the development of a public park to benefit the surrounding neighborhood and the broader community.
Following an extensive community engagement process, the Park Authority developed a concept for the challenging, hilly geography of the site to incorporate a variety of community amenities, including a large community playground, outdoor fitness area, basketball and pickleball courts, a large open lawn, pavilion and accessible trails throughout the property.
The park was initially opened for public use earlier this summer. The total project cost was $3 million with funding provided by the Park Authority and the Department of Housing and Community Development.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at the pavilion located just up the trail from the park entrance. Event parking will be available at the North Hill Park parking lot and extend down Nightingale Hill Lane behind the Residences at North Hill development.
