Kids Cut Ribbon To Open New Children’s Space at Cub Run Rec Center

Ribbon Cutting

More than a dozen eager kids, joined by their excited parents, celebrated the opening of a brand-new space at Cub Run Rec Center especially for them. The new room at Cub Run Rec Center is designed as an inviting and engaging space for kids ages 6 months to 10 years to enjoy, while their parents come to get in a workout, swim laps, participate in classes or relax in the spa.

In the room, children can play with toys and games, work on crafts, and enjoy reading or other age-appropriate activities. The brand-new, open playroom features a separate area for infants and toddlers who are not walking. Park Authority staff ensure that children are kept entertained while adults are able to use the Rec Center.

Everything about the space — from the drop cloud features to make the space feel smaller and the specialty space for crawling children, to the calming colors and playful decorative features, such as our pencil wall protectors — was intentionally selected to provide a calming, engaging and fun environment for children. Safety is also paramount with all staff supervising the children required to be certified in First Aid and CPR, while adhering to the Virginia Department of Social Services child-to-staff ratio standards.

"The Park Authority is in the business of fun for everyone, and part of that work includes identifying and overcoming barriers," said Park Authority Deputy Director Sara Baldwin. “For many parents of young children, the responsibility of caring for a child can often be a barrier to activity if there’s no place for the child to go. With this new service in place, we’ve opened doors for parents to really enjoy all that Cub Run Rec Center has to offer them in support of a healthy, active lifestyle, while knowing their children are being well cared for."

Those using Cub Run Rec Center can use the drop-in child care services on a first-come, first-served basis. Services cost $3 per child and $1.50 for each additional child for up to 2 hours, once a day.

The Cub Run Rec Center is located at 4630 Stonecroft Blvd. in Chantilly. For additional information about the Rec Center and for details on drop-in childcare, visit Cub Run Rec Center website or call 703-817-9407.
