Wastewater Management (WWM) is committed to Protect, Restore, and Enhance the environment and provide for the health, safety and well-being of those who work, live and visit in Fairfax County. At the heart of this commitment is the Environmental Management System (EMS). This program guides decisions to help identify and manage environmental impacts by reviewing and improving operations and policies. The overall goal is to ensure environmental compliance and leverage opportunities for enhanced environmental benefits and sustainability.
WWM has participated in this program since 2003, maintaining an E4 status since 2006. In 2023, the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality’s (DEQ) Virginia Environment Excellent Program (VEEP) renewed WWM’s environment management system's Extraordinary Environmental Enterprise (E4) status. As defined by the Virginia DEQ, E4 status is for facilities that have a “fully implemented EMS program and have committed to continuous and sustainable environmental progress and community involvement".
