Jackson Family Cemetery
Jackson Family Cemetery
1157 Swinks Mill Rd.
McLean, Va.
FX227
The cemetery is located about 100' southeast of the "Jackson House" and is surrounded by a 100'x 50' wire fence. Day lillies and ground cover grow densely throughout the cemetery. There are four formal gravestones, but the thick lillies obscured any evidence of fieldstones or unmarked burials.
NOTE: This was the original burial place of JAMES W. JACKSON, proprietor of the Marshall House hotel in Alexandria, Va. Jackson was killed on May 24, 1861 when he killed Col. ELMER ELLSWORTH during the Federal occupation of the town. His remains were removed to Fairfax City Cemetery (FX082) some years ago.
