Existing County Programs for Residential Buildings
Fairfax County has two existing programs to help homeowners and renters make energy saving improvements to their homes and learn behaviors that will increase their energy efficiency over time. The first is Energy Action Fairfax, an outreach program that provides residents with information, resources, and assistance to reduce at-home energy use.
The second is the HomeWise program, which educates, empowers, and enables residents to make changes that reduce their energy use, water use, and associated in-home costs.
Existing County Programs for Commercial Buildings
On the commercial side, the county offers businesses and organizations the opportunity to make substantial energy-saving improvements to their buildings through the Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy and Resiliency (C-PACE) program. C-PACE is a financing tool designed to provide long-term private funding to building owners for energy-saving, water-saving, and resiliency improvement projects within commercial properties.
Existing Energy Policies and Programs for County Owned Buildings
When it comes to county-owned and operated buildings, energy-saving activities are driven by the Operational Energy Strategy. First adopted in 2018 and substantially revised in 2021, the Energy Strategy is intended to advance the objectives of the Board’s Environmental Vision through the setting of goals, targets, and actions across major focus areas.
