Position Title: Adult Education Coordinator/Instructor
Location: Green Spring Gardens; 4603 Green Spring Road, Alexandria, Virginia 22312
Schedule: Must have scheduling flexibility to allow for weekday and weekend times as well as occasional evenings. Average 25 hours weekly.
Salary: $16.00 per hour.

Overview: Green Spring Gardens seeks a charismatic team member for immediate hire to teach and schedule horticulture and cultural history programs for adults. This position oversees scheduling, staffing, or finding staff for public and private programs. Applicants should have strong oral communication skills with the ability to present and teach to groups of varying, age, number, and cultural background. This team member will be responsible for planning programs, contracting outside presenters, developing and leading education programs, scheduling volunteers and assisting with events. Additional duties include administrative, volunteer management and customer service.

Required Qualifications: Interest and knowledge base in horticulture, gardening, history, and/or educational programming with excellent oral and written communications skills. Enthusiasm for working with people and developing program content. Ability to present and interpret programs to diverse groups. Some experience in customer service and administrative support. Successful candidate must be able to acquire a thorough knowledge of Recreation Dynamics point of sale system, familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, audio visual and standard office equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in horticulture, gardening, history, and/or education or a related field.
  • Experience with volunteer management.
  • Undergraduate degree in a related field.
  • Multi-lingual is a plus.

Position Title: Patriot Park North, Manager on Duty (MOD)
Location: 5425 Willow Springs School Road, Fairfax VA 22030

Overview: Act as onsite staff during FCPA diamond sports tournaments. 

Duties Include:     

  • Ensures the safe and effective operation of the park. Early shift opens the administrative side of the park, preparing it for Tournament Organizers. Closing shift closes and secures the park at the end of each day.
  • Works with Site maintenance staff, providing communication and feedback with Tournament organizers.
  • Ensures Park is well maintained and kept in safe conditions.
  • May perform routine maintenance and custodial tasks to include sanitizing high touch surface areas, emp-tying trash cans, and cleaning restrooms and other areas.
  • Provides excellent customer service, greets Tournament Organizers, assists customers in resolving issues or concerns.
  • Performs administrative work as needed.
  • Takes initiative to increase one's knowledge of the park operations, its facilities, programs, services, and resources.
  • Serves as the primary contact point for Tournament Organizers. Provides verbal and written information and directions relating to the facility.
  • Stays up to date on Park Authority Rules and Regulations, Standard Operating Procedures, state and county laws, and other pertinent guidance.
  • Note’s safety/security and maintenance concerns, addresses them where feasible, and reports to supervisor using appropriate methods and recordkeeping.
  • Responds on behalf of the Park Authority to potential and actual emergency situations occurring on site while on duty.
  • Completes special projects and tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Agree to a Criminal Background Check (fingerprint) 
  • Have or willing to obtain CPR and first aid certification.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license. 
  • Be able to lift up to 25 pounds and perform general maintenance and custodial work.

Position Title: Batting Cage Attendant
Pay Rate: $13 - $19.78 per hour depending on experience. 
Location: Braddock Park at 13441 Braddock Rd, Clifton, VA 20124

Position Summary: Under general supervision of the Operations Specialist, the Batting Cage Attendant provides an excellent guest experience by ensuring the safety of guests, maintaining a clean and attractive facility/grounds, and interacts with guests using courteous and effective communication to provide information and resolve problems as necessary throughout their assigned shift.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Sells tokens, refreshments, and handouts rental equipment to guests.   
  • Ensures participant experience by enforcing facility program rules and procedures.
  • Sets up and cleans up equipment at the beginning and end of each shift.
  • Ensures facilities and equipment are left in a secure condition by closing and locking all gates, windows, and doors.
  • Assist in maintenance and cleaning of the playing and surrounding area. 
  • Maintains accurate records and provides information for various reports.
  • Answers telephone calls and provides general information regarding fees, hours, etc.
  • Must follow all FCPA and County rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be a minimum of 16 years of age.
  • Previous experience with batting cages preferred but not required. 

Hours: Vary and will include mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Position Title: Batting Cage Manager
Pay Rate: $$15.00 - $23.00 per hour depending on experience. 
Location: The Batting Cage is located within Braddock Park at 13441 Braddock Rd, Clifton, VA 20124

Position Summary: The Batting Cage Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Batting Cages at Braddock Park. Opportunities to work with FCPA’s Tournaments and sports tourism are also available to this position.

Essential Functions

Position Title: IT Helpdesk Assistant 
Location: IT Services Branch; Herrity Building, 12055 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax, VA. This position will report to the Herrity building and may be dispatched to sites across Fairfax County. 
Hours: This position offers a schedule of a select three days through Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. 
The person in this position may work a morning or midday shift.
Salary: $27.59 per hour. 
Position Type: Seasonal (G-Status) 

Overview: We are seeking a highly motivated and tech-savvy person pursuing an IT-related degree, including but not limited to computer science, information systems, or related fields, to join our team as a seasonal IT Help Desk. This position is open to the public.  

Responsibilities:

  • Provides support to all staff contacting the park authority related to user access, county related applications, network connectivity, peripherals and computer hardware and software.
  • Identifies and resolves basic to intermediate support tickets dealing with hardware, software, communications, and networking problems related to end-user computing.
  • Uses helpdesk ticketing system to input and track user support requests, including amending tickets with end user input, updates, additional agency involvement, timeframes, and resolution.  
  • Maintains documented procedures including equipment inventory of utilized and spare equipment. 
  • Travel to various FCPA facilities to provide onsite support as directed. 
  • Performs account management and account support on POS systems.
  • Monitors network components for inventory purposes.
  • Assists in installing, configuring, and upgrading computer systems. 
  • Assists in staff moves and relocation of computer equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent with 1-3 years of relevant Information Technology experience.
  • Knowledge of basic computer hardware, including installation and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with desktop windows 10 operating systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical in-formation in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Proficient interpersonal skills, with a focus on rapport-building, listening, and questioning skills. 
  • Proficient written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.

Position Title: Summer Entertainment Series Site Manager
Location and Hours:  

Mason District Park Amphitheater, Annandale, VA

  • Every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday evening, from June 15 to August 18, 2024, from 4:00 to 10:30 p.m.
  • Every Saturday morning, from June 15 to August 17, 2024, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.
  • Estimated 22 hours/week.

Starlight Cinema, Sully Historic Site, Chantilly, VA

  • Saturday evenings in August. (8/3, 8/10, 8/17, 8/24) from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
  • Estimated 4 hours/week

Salary: $16 per hour. 

Overview: The incumbent will be responsible for opening and closing the amphitheater before and after the Summer Concert Series Shows in the evenings on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays on the dates listed above and on the listed Saturday mornings. Incumbents will have access to a small utility vehicle to navigate between the stage, sound deck, parking lot and park area.

Typical duties during concerts are as follows:

  • Preparing the amphitheater for the concert by unlocking the dressing and storage rooms, turning lights on, making sure the stage is clean, the seating area is clean, the restroom facilities are open and useable, parking area has no issues, placing donor signs by the sound booth and directional signs from the park entrance leading to the amphitheater, etc.
  • Greeting sound crew and making sure they have access to power, storage room, etc. 
  • Greeting performers and making sure they have access to the dressing rooms, power, etc. and have number of chairs they have requested and water in the refrigerator in the dressing room. 
  • Setting up the entrance area to the seating area by the sound booth and making sure all items are on display – carboard fans, donor sign, donation box, etc.
  • If the car park is full, assist cars to park on the lawn area next to the tennis courts. 
  • While the performance is in progress, change the announcement board at the park entrance to display the next show. 
  • Drive utility vehicles around the park to make sure there are no issues. Make a count of attendees during the performance. Record a count of the number of people attending the show.
  • After the end of the concert, return all items back to where they belong, make sure everyone has left and the stage is cleaned for next show, turn lights off and lock the storage rooms. 

Typical duties during the starlight cinema are as follows:

  • The incumbent will be responsible for monitoring the opening procedures and serving as a Point of Contact to the Children’s performer on the dates listed. 
  • Greet Food Vendors as they arrive and direct placement
  • Greet Parking Crew & Volunteers as they arrive and provide instruction
  • Greet Children’s Performer upon arrival
  • Dismiss volunteers

Position Title: Safety Assistant (Safety Analyst I) 
Location: Herrity Building; 12055 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax, VA. 22035 
Hours: This is a year-round part-time position averaging 30 hours per week. 
Salary: Starting at $27.38 per hour. 
Benefits: Individuals in these positions are eligible for limited employee benefits, including medical, vision and dental insurance coverage, and participation in flexible spending programs, but are not eligible to earn leave or receive holiday pay. This position cannot exceed 1,560 hours per calendar year.

Overview: The Safety Assistant assists the Park Authority Safety Coordinator to ensure compliance with all ap-plicable safety and health laws and regulations; and performs related work as required. Assists with DriveCam administration, claims management processes, maintaining safety databases and tracking and reporting related to safety training administration. Responsible for the maintenance of the Safety Office SharePoint page and updating safety documents for agency use. Provides ad hoc reporting as needed. 

Duties Include: 

  • Fleet Safety Program: This position will complete an initial evaluation of DriveCam events, identifying events of note that will require further action by the safety office. Additionally, they will track individual driver and site performance metrics, making recommendations for safety office intervention to address negative trends or improper driving behaviors. Compile and evaluate monthly KPIs reporting out to the Safety officer and making recommendations to address concerns.
  • Claims management: This position will assist in the intake, and processing of property loss and injury claims to include, review of claim, procurement of required documentation, initial investigation, record management, tracking of claims progress, and claims database management.
  • Safety Information Management: This position will aid the maintenance of safety databases; including. COVID in the workplace and potential outbreak reporting, employee and citizen injury databases, proper-ty loss and behavior incident reports, and CAPRA accreditation evidence documents. Ensuring databases are kept up to date and producing reports on an as needed basis. Additionally, they will assist with maintaining the agency facing Safety Office webpage.
  • Safety Training Administration: This position will assist with the coordination of the Safety Training program including maintaining an annual training calendar, tracking agency safety training compliance, coordinating with third party safety training providers, and maintenance of training records.
  • Facility Safety Audits:  The position will work closely with the Safety Manager to conduct facility safety audits or an annual and as needed basis.  This includes physical inspection of facility, audit report writing, and remediation tracking.
  • Incident and Injury investigation:  This position will aid with incident and injury review and subsequent follow up actions.  Including conducting investigation, creating investigation reports, recommend-ed/required remediation action and remediation compliance.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Sedentary with walking and lifting less than 25 pounds.
  • Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:

    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in safety sciences, industrial hygiene, safety management, loss prevention or closely related field.

  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • Strong database management skills.
