The Environmental Coordinator oversees strategic environmental policy related to water, air and ecological resources; waste management; and noise, light and visual pollution. The coordinator works closely with many county and state agencies including: the Department of Public Works and Environmental Services; Department of Planning and Zoning; the Park Authority; area water authorities; Fairfax County Department of Transportation; and the Virginia Departments of Transportation.
Acting as a liaison with the business community and citizens, the coordinator also administers and coordinates activities of the county's Environmental Coordinating Committee; briefs the governing body on federal and state regulations, guidelines and programs; and identifies issues and topics of consideration impacting local decision- and policy-making activities.
