Location

Site plan for proposed plan to relocate homeless shelter.

The temporary facility is proposed to be located in the field behind the Lincolnia Senior Center, 4710 North Chambliss Street, Alexandria. The approximately 50-bed shelter for men and women who are homeless would operate in a pre-manufactured, modular structure.

County officials expect this shelter would be at this site for the next four to five years until a permanent home can be secured.

Public Input

To discuss the proposal, Fairfax officials will hold a community meeting on Monday, April 11, 7 to 9 p.m. The community meeting will take place at Peace Lutheran Church’s fellowship room, 6362 Lincolnia Road, Alexandria.

The Baileys Crossroads Community Shelter will need to be relocated to permit planned redevelopment of its current site.

As with public facilities like libraries or fire stations, the Planning Commission must approve their location. Fairfax officials plan to submit their application for review later this week. Once it has been officially accepted, the commission will schedule a public hearing on the proposal and the public may testify or submit written comments.
