UPDATE: Urban Search/Rescue Team Returns from South Carolina


The county’s Urban Search and Rescue Team (VATF-1) has returned home after being activated by FEMA to help South Carolina residents during the historic flooding that is taking place there.

  • 80 team members
  • 4 canine team members
  • 8 boats

A part of the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department, the Urban Search and Rescue team maintains a constant operational readiness and is a local resource for the residents of Fairfax County. The federal government pays for most costs and expenses incurred by the team when activated. This is the second deployment for the team this year; they also assisted with the aftermath of the earthquake in Nepal.
