VDOT to Host 7 Meetings About Future of I-66

The Virginia Department of Transportation will host another round of public meetings on its plans to improve I-66 inside and outside the Beltway from Rosslyn to Haymarket. The two projects are separate, so be sure to read VDOT’s comprehensive details of both plans in the links below.

 

Inside the Beltway

According to VDOT, current recommendations for I-66 inside the Beltway include:

  • Improved transit service
  • Bicycle and pedestrian access
  • Tolling non-HOV 3+ vehicles during peak travel-time in order to manage demand for the lanes and keep them free-flowing at all times, while providing connections to I-495 and I-95 express lanes
  • Consideration of future widening

Outside the Beltway

According to VDOT, under the proposed plan, I-66 outside the Beltway would be improved to provide:

  • Three regular lanes in each direction
  • Two express lanes in each direction
  • High-frequency bus service with predictable travel times
  • Enhanced commuter park and ride lots
  • Direct access between the express lanes and new or expanded commuter lots

These meetings will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.:
