Dinner at Bamian Restaurant - Sunday, March 5, 2017

The Interfaith Communities for Dialogue committee invites you to their next Interfaith Social Dinner, which will take place on Sunday, March 5, 2017, 5:30 PM, at Bamian Afghan Cuisine. The restaurant is located at 5634 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church, VA 22104. As usual, this will be a casual evening where participants will enjoy interacting with a diverse group, catch up on what has been happening, enjoy learning from and about each other, welcome new folks, and explore dining at a variety of local restaurants. You are welcome to bring friends and family. Please feel free to peruse the restaurant’s many appetizing choices by viewing its menu online. Patrons can pay by cash or credit card. House of Worship Building & Renovation In Fairfax County

The next FCIA Network Meeting will be devoted to sharing what faith groups need to know about building new houses of worship and renovating existing spaces. This information session will cover zoning, building codes, permits and the application process. Information will also be presented about wastewater and fire marshal reviews, county information and process support. The meeting will take place on Wednesday, March 8; the deadline for registration will be Monday, March 6. Meeting Location: Fairfax County Government Center, Rooms 9 and 10, 12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax, VA 22035. United Response to Hate Speech, Bias Incidents and Hate Crimes

The Fairfax County Community Interfaith Coordination (CIC) unit is happy to announce that a United Response to Hate Speech, Bias Incidents and Hate Crimes will take place on Sunday, March 26, 2017 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. in the Ernst Room at Northern Virginia Community College - Annandale. This conference is designed to provide information, resources and tools for addressing harmful rhetoric and hate crimes in Fairfax County. The event format will include brief presentations by experts who specialize in preventing hate rhetoric and hate crimes, followed by a discussion between our audience and a panel comprised of diverse religious leaders. Through our discussions, we will identify how we as a community can be a part of the solution to hate speech, bias incidents and hate crimes. Featured speakers will include Chairman Sharon Bulova of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, Steve Gordon - Assistant US Attorney with the US Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division, and a diverse representation of faith leaders from houses of worship, law enforcement entities and nonprofit organizations within Fairfax County.

Domestic Violence Response Workshop: “The Impact of Domestic Violence on Children”

Our next domestic violence prevention workshop will train participants to recognize signs that indicate a child's exposure to domestic violence, understand challenges, and identify/access victim resources.

Presenters: Allison Medina (Program Manager, Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, The Women’s Center) and Amanda Tenorio (Break the Cycle Program Coordinator, The Women’s Center)

This workshop is presented by Fairfax County Department of Neighborhood & Community Services  (NCS), Fairfax County's Community Interfaith Coordination Unit (CIC), and The FCIA Interfaith Domestic Violence Prevention Committee.
