Frying Pan Farm ParkHunter Mill Melodies Free Summer Concerts

The Hunter Mill Melodies free summer concert series have begun and will continue through the month of August. Hunter Mill Melodies series returns for the 4th year to Frying Pan Farm Park, 2709 West Ox Road, Herndon.  All concerts are free and begin at 7:30 p.m.  Come early and take advantage of the season's fresh offering at the park's Farmers Market (3:30-7:00 p.m.)  Or, just bring a blanket and picnic supper for a concert under the stars.   Next up is;

  • June 20:  Trio Caliente (Latin)
  • June 27:  The ATOMIC Swing Club (swing)
  • July 4:   no performance  
  • July 11:  The Aloha Boys (Hawaiian)
  • July 18:  The Special Consensus (bluegrass)

The Wednesday Morning Children's Series:  begin at 10 a.m. in the FPFP Visitors Center

  • June 26:  The Great Zucchini (comedy/magic)
  • July 3:  The GoodLife Theatre (puppets)
  • July 10:  the grandsons, Jr.  (songs)
  • July 17:  Rocknoceros (songs)  

 

Under Construction:  New, Improved North County Governmental Center

Construction has begun on the new North County Governmental Center which houses the Reston District Police Station and Hunter Mill District Supervisor's Office.  The current building will continue to operate while the new building is under construction.  Check out the webpage for the new design, timeline and updates on the project's progress.  

 

BlueprintOpportunity to Serve:  Hunter Mill District Land Use Committee

Are you interested in land use issues?  We are looking for several new members for the Hunter Mill District Land Use Committee.  The committee provides guidance and citizen participation in the district land use cases coming before the Planning Commission and the Board of Supervisors.  The minimum time commitment is 10-15 hours per month.  Committee members serve for 3 year terms.  If you are interested, contact Goldie Harrison at 703-478-0283.

Disproportionate Minority Contact Report

In September, the Center for Study of Social Policy presented their report to the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and the Fairfax County School Board at their joint meeting.  The study is titled "Disproportionate Minority Contact for African American and Hispanic Youth:  The Story Behind the Number and the Path to Action".  

Supervisor Hudgins is organizing a meeting of community members, county and school staff, and community organizations to review the study and initiate a discussion for future action.  This meeting is open to all interested and will be Wednesday, December 5, at 7 p.m.  Call the Hunter Mill District office at 703-478-0283 for additional information.

  

First Mondays logo  First Mondays with Supervisor Hudgins

First Mondays will held quarterly at Reston Regional Library and Patrick Henry Library in Vienna.  You are invited to come and share any concern you may have on any issue with Supervisor Hudgins, or just talk with her one-to-one.  First Monday hours are from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.   Walk-ins are welcome, or if you prefer, you can schedule an appointment by calling the Hunter Mill District Office at 703-478-0283.  The schedule for the upcoming 2012 First Mondays are;

October 7th - Patrick Henry Library, Vienna

November 4th - Reston Regional Library

 

"Connecting with Supervisor Hudgins"  Current Show: Lyme Disease

Each month, Supervisor Hudgins hosts a conversation on topics in the Hunter Mill District on her cable television show, Connecting With Supervisor Hudgins.  The cable show is broadcast on the County's  Channel 16 (Cox) and Channel 28 (Comcast).  Tune in to this month's program for a repeat of the Lyme Disease show with expert Dr. Jorge Arias from the Fairfax Health Department.  "Connecting with Supervisor Hudgins" is shown each week on Channel 16 on Sundays at 4 p.m., Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m., and Fridays at 4 p.m.  Or, programs can be viewed from your computer with video on demand.
