Current News and Notices                          

  • 10 Year Transit Development Plan Public Meetings:  Fairfax County Department of Transportation wants to hear from you on the proposed 10-year plan for bus service countywide, including Fairfax Connector (and RIBS) and Metrobus.  The final meeting in the Hunter Mill district is on Monday, November 9, 6-8 p.m. at the North County Government Center, 12000 Bowman Towne Drive, Reston.                                                                                                                                                                    
  • Hunter Mill Coat Closet, a cooperative program with my office and Reston Interfaith, begins operation on Saturday, November 14 at the North County Government Center, 12000 Bowman Towne Drive in Reston.  Last year, the Coat Closet distributed over 5,000 winter coats and 1,800 hats, gloves and scarves.  Again this year, your contributions of gently used or new adult and child sized coats are greatly appreciated.  The Coat Closet will be open to those in need of coats, or to drop off donations, on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to noon, Thursdays from 5:30 to 8 p.m., and Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., through March 13.  For the last eight years, our residents have pitched in to provide this valuable service to our neighbors in need.                                                                                                                                                                                  
  • Reston Master Plan Special Study:  Two upcoming meetings will focus on the Reston Master Plan Special Study.  Meetings are open to the public.  For information on the special study, please contact my office at 703-478-0283.
    •  Kickoff Meeting:  Tuesday, December 1, 2009, 7:00 p.m., at South Lakes High School, 11400 South Lakes Drive, Reston. This meeting, co-hosted by my office and the Department of Planning and Zoning, will cover 1) description of the study approach, 2) description of the study schedule, 3) discussion of the review process for deferred APR items, 4) introduce Task Force, 5) release Current Conditions report, and 6) discussion of general planning principals for Reston.  
    • Task Force Meeting:  Tuesday, December 8, 2009, 7:00 p.m., at Reston Community Center at Lake Anne, 1609A Washington Plaza, Reston.  On the agenda is 1) discussion of task force policies, procedures and ground rules, 2) presentation of special study scope and schedule, and 3) overview of task force responsibilities.
