Open House on Crescent Apartments Redevelopment:  February 8th

Supervisor Hudgins will host an open house with information on a request for redevelopment of Crescent Apartments in Reston.  The session will be co-sponsored by the Fairfax County Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) and the Office of Community Revitalization (OCR) and will discuss the goals of the redevelopment project which is intended to be a catalyst for the revitalization of Lake Anne Village Center.  Open house will be held on Wednesday, February 8, 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lake Anne Village Center Reston Community Center located at 609 Washington Plaza North.  For information, contact Rex Peters (HCD) at 703-246-5143, rex.peters@fairfaxcounty.gov.  

 

BudgetsTax-Aide Program:  Free Tax Preparation Services

AARP Tax-Aide is the nation's largest free, volunteer tax preparation service available to taxpayers with low and middle income, with special attenntion to those 60 and older.  The program offers free tax assistance by IRS trained specialists beginning February 1 through April 17.  Two sites in the Hunter Mill District operate on a walk-in basis for residents seeking assistance:  Sun Trust Bank of Vienna, and the Reston Community Center.  Check details in the January issue of  Hunter Mill Highlights newsletter for hours of operation and additional sites/hours.  

 

 

VACO President Virginia Association of Counties Elects Supervisor Hudgins President for 2011-12

The Virginia Association of Counties (VACo) elected Supervisor Hudgins as President at their recent annual conference.  VACo supports county officials and works to represent, promote and protect the interests of counties to better serve the people of Virginia.  The group represents local governments at the state and national levels in the legislative and regulatory processes while also serving as a valuable resource network for planning and implementing new ideas and technologies.  Supervisor Hudgins becomes the eighth VACO president to hail from Fairfax County.   

 

Winter Coats Winter Coat Closet Open

My office is sponsoring our annual Winter Coat Closet to provide needed children and adults with a warm winter coat.  Your donations of gently used or new coats will be greatly appreciated.  Last year, with the assistance of Reston Interfaith, we distributed over 5,500 coats to individuals and families.  The Coat Closet will be open to receive your donations and to select a winter coat on Tuesdays 10 a.m to noon, Thursdays 1 to 3 p.m., and Saturdays 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., beginning November 12th through to March 10th.  The Coat Closet is located at the North County Governmental Center, 12000 Bowman Towne Drive in Reston.  For additional information, please contact the Hunter Mill office at 703-478-0283.  

 

First Mondays logo First Mondays with Supervisor Hudgins:  

On the first Monday of each month, you are invited to come and share any concern you may have on any issue with Supervisor Hudgins.  First Monday hours are from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Location will alternate between Reston Regional Library and Patrick Henry Library in Vienna.  Walk-ins are welcome, or if you prefer, you can schedule an appointment by calling the Hunter Mill District Office at 703-478-0283.  The schedule for the upcoming 2010 First Mondays are;

March 5 - Reston Regional Library

February 6 - Patrick Henry Library
