Supervisor John C. Cook’s Parent Resources Town Hall Meeting
Raising Teens in the 21st Century
Madam Chairman:
Our children are back in school and the pressures upon our youth are real. It is a very difficult task raising teens in the 21st century will all they have to go through. Pressures on education, social media, substance use, stress and anxiety are issues teens and their parents deal with every day.
In order to educate parents on how to cope with some major issues our youth is facing, I am hosting a Parent Resources Town Hall Meeting entitled “Raising Teens in the 21st Century” on October 14 from 9 – 12:30 pm at the Junior Achievement Finance Park, next to Frost Middle School, 4099 Picket Road, Fairfax, VA. We will have a report by Neighborhood Community Services on the 2015-2016 Youth Survey, a keynote address on the “Warning Signs of Teens in Trouble/Keep them on the Good Side of the Road;” and four breakout sessions on Stress and Anxiety, Positive Family Time, Substance Use and Learning Disabilities. These sessions will be led by County officials, school employees, adolescent psychology experts, and non-profit organizations deeply entrenched in these topics. A copy of the flyer is attached.
Madam Chairman, I ask without objection that the Office of Public Affairs provide the necessary support in assisting to get the word out to the Braddock District and others.
