The Fiscal Services Division provides management and oversight of the financial aspects of the Department. Through budgeting, accounting, grants management and the EMS transport billing program, the Fiscal Services Division strives to ensure that funds are utilized in the most efficient and effective way possible.

Each summer, as budget preparation season begins, the Budget Analyst leads a team of analysts from within each of the department's divisions to prepare the department's annual budget. After review by the county's Department of Management and Budget, the department's proposed budget for the next fiscal year is presented to the Board of Supervisors for final review and approval. The county's fiscal year runs from July 1 through June 30.

The Fiscal Services grants team provides financial oversight for more than $41 million in State and Federal grant funds. The grants team serves as the department point of contact with grantor organizations to ensure that grantor requirements for programmatic, financial and application development are met. The team liaisons with department project managers and other county staff from the Department of Management and Budget, Internal Audit, Department of Finance and the Office of Emergency Management, to coordinate all facets of county grants functions.

The Fiscal Services division is also responsible for the administration of the EMS transport billing program. This responsibility includes management of the billing services contract, accounting for the revenue, coordinating relationships with surrounding jurisdictions, public outreach, establishing relationships with the various insurance companies, and general support for Fairfax County residents regarding the billing program.
