Planning and Land Use System (PLUS)

The Planning and Land Use System (PLUS) is a new multi-agency platform for Fairfax County customers to complete their zoning, building, permitting or other land development processes online. Through the PLUS platform, customers will create and submit applications online, pay fees, track application status, and receive electronic notifications. Customers and county staff will use PLUS to review applications and conduct searches. PLUS will serve as a unified source of information for industry and the general public, eliminating the silo-effect of different systems that cannot communicate with each other. All phases of PLUS for the Office of the Fire Marshal were launched on October 31, 2022.

Please Note: Microsoft Edge is the supported browser for PLUS.

Fire Record Types in PLUS

For use with the Installation records when the code to be modified is the Code of Fairfax County, Public Facilities Manual, or Statewide Fire Prevention Code.  Code modifications requests for the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code (USBC) are to be submitted via Building's Code Modification record.

The Fairfax County Fire Marshal is authorized to act on behalf of the Fairfax County Building Official regarding enforcement of the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code (USBC), providing primary USBC enforcement in the area of fire protection systems, which includes processing and issuing installation permits.

Pre- and Post-occupancy inspections are required by the Fire Marshal based on these requirements.

Short-Term and Single-Use Fire Prevention Code Permits are obtained for a limited amount of time or one-time use and are not renewable. The following are short-term or single-use fire prevention code permits that can be created in PLUS. Click on each permit type for step-by-step instructions.

These permits are applicable to lines 57.3 and 24, respectively, of Table 107.2.

Amendments are accessible via the Make Changes link found in the Action column of the records listed under the Fire tab.  Specific amendments are visible there based on record type and record status.
