Fire and Rescue - Women's Program Office

The goals of the Fire and Rescue Women's Program Office includes:

  • Addresses womens issues as they relate to the job of firefighter/paramedic
  • Presents research to the Fire Chief as it relates to the concerns of women regarding promotion, recruitment, retention, facilities, fitness and health care
  • Coordinates with professional organizations to evaluate and access current trends and issues associated concerning women in emergency services
  • Works in partnership with the EEO Officer as the women's advocate

Some of the highlights of program development include:

  • Trained recruits in conjunction with the EEO Officer
  • Assisted with the procurement of auxiliary trailer for women at the Fire and Rescue Academy
  • Assisted in the development of the pregnancy and reproductive health manual
  • Presented workshops at conferences across the region on pregnancy in the fire service
