The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department is pleased to announce the opening of its 36th fire and rescue station, Fairfax Center, Monday, June 12, 2006. The station will begin responding to fire, emergency medical emergencies, and public service calls at 7 a.m. The station is located at 4621 Legato Road, Fairfax, Virginia.
The Fairfax Center station will be the largest fire and rescue station in the county. It covers 24,195 square feet and sits on approximately six acres and is separated from nearby townhouses by a conservation easement. The station has five drive-thru bays, and accommodates up to 25 personnel per shift, including eight women.
Assigned apparatus to the station include an engine, tower truck, advanced life support medical unit, and a command and control vehicle. The station also houses the Hazardous Materials Units, providing hazardous materials emergency response throughout Fairfax County.
The station was constructed to meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, (LEED) silver requirements, incorporating the use of natural lighting, energy efficient HVAC system, recycled and non-toxic materials, reflective roofing materials, and a biological retention pond.
The grand opening for Fairfax Center Fire and Rescue Station 40 is scheduled for Saturday, July, 8, 2006, at 11 a.m. Residents are cordially invited to attend.
