Newington Fire Displaces Family

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire at approximately 9:00 p.m., Thursday, October 12, 2006, in the Newington area of Fairfax County. The house is located at 8459 Great Lake Lane.

Firefighters reported fire visible from the front of the single-family home. Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately 25 minutes. There were no injuries. Two adults and three children were displaced. The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents. A sounding smoke alarm alerted the occupants.

Damage is estimated at $250,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
