Smoke Alarm Alerts Residents

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a townhouse fire at approximately 6:20 a.m., Tuesday, December 12, 2006, in the Kingstowne area of Fairfax County. The townhouse is located at 6555 McKenna Drive.

Firefighters reported heavy fire from the front of a three-story townhouse. A second-alarm was requested bringing over 60 emergency personnel to the scene. The fire was brought under control in approximately 40 minutes. Three adult males were at home when the fire started, and were alerted by the smoke alarm activation. The fire originated in the attached garage located in the lower-level. In addition, 6553, and 6557 McKenna Drive, also sustained fire damage. Two adults are displaced. The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents.

Damage is estimated at $700,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
