Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to commercial building fire at approximately 6:25 p.m., Saturday, June 23, 2007, near the Village Shops at Crosspointe, in Fairfax County. The CVS store is located at 9009 Silverbrook Road.
Firefighters experienced fire coming from a gas meter to the rear of the store upon arrival. The fire originated from a high pressure gas leak and extended to the rear and roof of the store. Firefighters maintained a steady hose stream to the building to limit further fire damage. A second alarm was struck, bringing over 60 fire and rescue personnel to the emergency scene. There was heavy smoke damage through the store. There were no injuries.
Damage is estimated at $300,000.
According to fire investigators, the fire was intentionally started. Molotov cocktails were thrown and exploded in the rear of the store, igniting the gas meter and causing the fire. The fire continues to be under investigation.
