Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire Tuesday, September 25, 2007, at approximately 4 p.m. in the Pohick area of Fairfax County. The single-family home is located at 8104 Oak Hollow Court.
Firefighters saw heavy smoke coming from all four sides of the eaves of the two-story home upon arrival. Firefighters experienced heavy fire in the attic and roof of the home. A second alarm was subsequently struck, bringing over 60 firefighters to the scene. It took firefighters approximately 45 minutes to bring the fire under control. Two adults and two children have been displaced. The occupants were home when the fire broke out and escaped unharmed. There were no injuries. The Red Cross is assisting the family.
Damage is estimated at $555,000. Additionally, there was minor siding damage to an adjacent home.
According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. Insulation in the attic was too close to the recessed lighting in a second floor bathroom.
