Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire, Monday, October 29, 2007, at approximately 1:45 a.m., in the McLean area of Fairfax County. The single-family home is located at 6127 Franklin Park Road.
Firefighters encountered smoke and fire from the rear of the home upon arrival. The fire was brought under control in approximately 20 minutes. The fire originated in the attic space. Two adults have been displaced and Red Cross is not needed. There were two minor firefighter injuries, one was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital for a non-life threatening injury. A smoke alarm was present at the time of the fire and alerted the occupants who escaped unharmed.
Damage is estimated at $105,000.
According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. It was caused by fire escaping the masonry chimney liner.
