Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire at approximately 2:15 a.m., Wednesday, November 7, 2007, in the Mount Vernon area of Fairfax County. The house is located at 3801 Maryland Street.
Firefighters reported fire in the basement and smoke coming from the eves and attic of the two-story home upon arrival. An additional alarm was requested, bringing over 60 emergency personnel to the scene. Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately 25 minutes. Two adults were at home when the fire started. One adult female and one firefighter were transported to Inova Mount Vernon Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Two adults have been displaced. Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents.
Damage is estimated $547,000.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
