Two-Alarm Centreville House Fire

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire at approximately 4:20 a.m., Sunday, November 25, 2007, in the Centreville area of Fairfax County. The house is located at 5105 Myrtle Leaf Drive.

Firefighters reported fire and smoke coming from the garage which spread into the attic of the two-story home upon arrival. An additional alarm was requested bringing over 60 emergency personnel to the scene. A total of two adults and two children escaped unharmed. The occupants have been displaced. Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents. Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately 70 minutes.

The fire also extended to a neighbor’s home next door. Both adults were also displaced and received assistance from the Red Cross.

Damage is estimated at $757,000. The house next door received $110,000 in damages.

According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. The fire started in the engine compartment of a vehicle inside the garage.
