Two-Alarm Reston Condominium Fire

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a condominium fire at approximately 11:10 p.m., Saturday, December 1, 2007, in the Reston area of Fairfax County. The three-story condominium is located at 1512 Summerchase Court.

Firefighters encountered flames and smoke from the second and third floors and roof of the three-story condominium and townhouse units upon arrival. It took firefighters approximately 15 minutes to bring the fire under control. There were no injuries. Nine adults were displaced. Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents.

Damage is estimated at $300,000.

According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. Improperly discarded smoking materials on the balcony caused the fire.
