Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire Friday, December 28, 2007, at approximately 12:30 a.m., in the Alexandria area of Fairfax County. The single-family house is located at 2421 Popkins Lane.
Firefighters reported heavy fire from the first floor and second floor of the two-story single-family home upon arrival. Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately 30 minutes. During their search, firefighters found two deceased children in a second floor bedroom. One adult male was transported to Washington Hospital Burn Center via helicopter and an adult female was transported to a medical facility for evaluation. Two adults have been displaced. The Red Cross is assisting the displaced family.
Damage is estimated at $200,000.
According to fire investigators, the fire is under investigation.
The names of the victims will be released pending next-of-kin notification. The medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
