Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire, Monday, January 14, 2008, at approximately 2:30 a.m. in the Fair Oaks area of Fairfax County. The single-family home is located at 3162 Mary Etta Lane.
Firefighters encountered heavy fire and smoke from the front, rear, and roof of the two-story home upon arrival. A second fire alarm was struck, bringing over 60 firefighters to the scene. The home was quickly engulfed with flames on several sides and the entire roof. One of the sides of the home collapsed after several minutes. Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately 40 minutes. The fire was also fed by a natural gas leak in the home. The occupants escaped unharmed. Two adults have been displaced. There were no injuries.
The home was destroyed. Loss is estimated at $1.5 million.
The fire is under investigation.
