Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire Saturday, March 20, 2010, at approximately 4 p.m. in the McLean area of Fairfax County. The single family home is located at 1130 Cedrus Lane.
Firefighters encountered heavy smoke showing from the attic and roof of the two-story home upon arrival. The Incident Commander struck a second alarm and requested a tanker task force, bringing approximately 70 firefighters to the scene. The home is located in a non-water hydrant area of the county. Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control, confining the fire to the attic and second floor. The occupants were home when the fire broke out and escaped unharmed. Smoke alarms activated and provided early warning to the occupants. Two adults and one child have been displaced. Red Cross support was not necessary.
Damage is estimated at $75,000.
According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. The Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC) system in the attic caused the fire.
