Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at approximately 3:30 p.m. in the Woodlawn area of Fairfax County. The single-family home is located at 8223 Keeler Street.
Firefighters encountered heavy fire coming from the front and rear of the one-story single-family home upon arrival. Firefighters advanced a hose line inside the front door of the home and brought the fire under control in approximately 15 minutes. The occupants were not home at the time of the fire. Two family dogs perished in the fire. Three adults were displaced. Red Cross assistance was not needed.
Damage is estimated at $90,000.
According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. A malfunctioning window-mounted air conditioner caused the fire.
