Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire, Saturday, August 7, 2010, at approximately 10:30 a.m., in the Centreville area of Fairfax County. The townhouse is located at 5601 Sheals Lane.
Firefighters reported heavy smoke coming from the second and third floors of the three-story end unit townhouse upon arrival. Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately 20 minutes. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the second floor area. The origin of the fire was the kitchen. The occupants were not at home when the fire broke out. During the search of the townhouse, firefighters discovered a deceased dog. There was no additional damage to adjacent townhomes. There were no other injuries.
Damage is estimated at $160,000.
According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. A malfunctioning microwave caused the fire.
