Pool Concession Building Fire
Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a structure fire Monday, May 30, 2011, at approximately 1:30 a.m. in the Alexandria area of Fairfax County. The building, which housed concessions for the Little Hunting Creek Swimming Pool, is located at 7000 Canterbury Lane.
Firefighters encountered heavy fire and smoke upon arrival of the approximately 30 by 70 foot building. Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately 30 minutes. Approximately 50 percent of the building was destroyed, including all contents. There were no injuries.
Damage is estimated at $87,000.
According to fire investigators, the cause of the fire is undetermined. However, the origin of the fire was near a steel shelving unit containing electrical components.
