News Release 12-24
Date: April 9, 2012
The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for Northern Virginia and the D.C. Metro Area from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. for Monday, April 9, 2012.
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are occurring, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low humidity, low fuel moisture, and warm temperatures will create explosive fire growth potential.
Fire danger is severely elevated due to dry conditions along with gusty winds. The potential will be high for rapid spread of any uncontrolled brush or wild fires. All citizens should be extremely careful igniting any flames during this period, and should avoid it entirely, if at all possible.
For more information, call Daniel L. Schmidt or Captain I William Moreland, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department, 703-246-3801 and TTY: 711. Fairfax County is committed to nondiscrimination on the basis of disability in all county programs, services and activities. Reasonable accommodations will be provided upon request.
